How to use the 3D Model to Sprite Sheet

  1. Drop a GLB or glTF model, pick one of your 3D models, or open a model in the 3D editor, play an animation and click Make Sprite Sheet.
  2. No animations? Signed in, click Rig it, then pick moves such as Walk or Attack and click Animate; each move is added to the Animation list.
  3. Pick the animation, the number of directions (1, 4 or 8) and the camera: side view, three-quarter or top-down.
  4. Set the frames and the frame size, and turn on Pixelate or Outline if you want a pixel-art look.
  5. Check the preview, then download the Sheet PNG, the JSON or a ZIP, or click Save to library.

Using it in your game

Each row is one direction and each column one frame, every frame the same size with the feet on the same spot. The JSON uses the frames-hash format Phaser (this.load.atlas) and PixiJS load, with one animation per direction; for Godot, take the sheet to the Godot SpriteFrames Exporter.

Frequently asked questions

How does it turn a 3D model into a sprite sheet?

It loads the model in your browser with WebGL, plays the animation you pick, and takes evenly spaced frames from it from every direction you ask for. Each direction becomes a row of the sheet and each frame a column.

Will the character stay the same size in every frame?

Yes. One camera is fitted to the whole animation from every direction before anything is drawn, so the character is the same scale in every frame and its feet stay on the same spot. Keep in place cancels the forward movement of a walk or run, so it stays in the middle of the frame.

Which files can I use?

GLB, or a glTF that has its data embedded. Rigged models with animations give you animated sheets; a model without animations gives one frame per direction. Signed in, you can also pick one of your Voidless 3D models, or open one here from the 3D editor.

My model has no animations. Can I still get a walk cycle?

Yes, if it is a humanoid character. Signed in, click Rig it (140 credits) to give it a skeleton, then pick moves such as walk, run or attack, or describe your own (30 credits each). Models that are not humanoid are refused before anything is charged. Each move appears in the Animation list as soon as it is ready.

Can I get pixel art out of it?

Yes. Pixelate renders at a lower resolution with hard edges and limits the whole sheet to one palette of 4 to 64 colours, and Outline draws a 1 to 3 pixel outline around the sprite.

What do I get?

A transparent PNG sheet, a JSON file in the frames-hash format Phaser and PixiJS load (with an animation per direction and the feet anchor), and a ZIP with every frame as its own PNG. Signed in, you can also save the sheet to your Voidless library as an animated sprite.

Does it cost anything or upload my model?

Rendering is free and happens on your own device; the model is not uploaded. Saving the sheet to your library is free too. Only rigging and new animations cost credits, and rigging a dropped file saves it to your library first so it can be rigged.
