How to use the Pixel Art Fixer
- Drop an AI pixel art image, or any picture.
- Fix finds the grid it was drawn on; if it finds none, set the pixel size or switch to Pixelate and pick a width.
- Choose how many colours to keep.
- Download the PNG at its real size, or 4× or 8× for previews.
Using it in your game
Use the 1× PNG in your engine at whole-number scales (2×, 3×, 4×) with nearest-neighbour filtering, so the pixels stay square.
Frequently asked questions
Why does AI pixel art look blurry up close?
Image models draw "pixels" as blocks of screen pixels that are not a whole number wide (8.6 px, say), with soft, blended edges and slightly different shades inside each block. It looks like pixel art from afar, but it is not on a grid and holds thousands of colours.
How does the fixer find the grid?
It measures where colours change between neighbouring columns and rows. Those changes repeat at every block edge, and their spacing is the block size. It then reads one colour from the centre of each block and drops the blurred edges, so you get the sprite at its real size.
What if it finds no grid?
The image may not be pixel art, or it was resized too much. Set the pixel size by hand, or switch to Pixelate to turn any image into pixel art at the width you choose.
What do Clean and Smooth do?
Clean gives each pixel the most common colour in its cell, for sharp graphic edges. Smooth uses the average colour, for softer shading.
Is anything uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser, so the image never leaves your device, and there is no account or limit.
